Industrial Felt

Pressed Wool Felt

SFF offers one of the largest inventories of pressed felt in North America. All of our pressed felts are manufactured with high quality wool fiber. We manufacture to all SAE requirements and focus our specifications on C-F-206G per the U.S. Federal Specifications. We offer a thickness range of .047” to 1.00” thick with 60” and 72” widths.

Pressed felt is made using high quality wool fiber which is mechanically pressed into a specific density and thickness using heat, moisture and pressure. SFF offers several SAE variations including SAE F-1/F-50 (firm), F-5 (medium) and F-10 (soft) which is manufactured out of clean virgin wool fiber (off white). We also carry grey wool pressed felts in SAE F-3/F-51 (firm), F-7/F-55 (medium) and F-11/F-13 (soft). All of our Pressed Wool felts are available with and without PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive). Our pressed felts are available in special widths and can be sold by the LYD (linear yard) or by the roll. Ask about many of our valued added services like slitting and die cutting.

SAE felt applications may include Gaskets, Seals, Washers, Wicking, Dust Shields, Grease Retainers, Medical, Ink Dams, Pads, Sound Reduction, Wipers, Insulation, Lubricators, Space Pads, Plugs, Bearing Seals, Weather Stripping, Shock Dampeners, Discs, Bushings, Orthopedic, Appliance, Automotive, Etc.

All of our SAE felts range in various density and thickness and most are in stock for immediate shipment. All of our SAE felts are ROHS compliant and can be certified to automotive specification FMVSS-302 (fire resistant). Felt Fact: Wool felts remain unchanged in physical properties as it wears. Wool felts do not ravel or fray. Also, highly absorbent, wool felts remain uninjured by oil saturation.

Sheet Felts

Sheet felts are made from high quality virgin wool and are traditionally sold in 36” x 36” sheets. Sheet Felt is considered much denser than our standard SAE felts. Also mechanically pressed, our sheet felts are carried in 32, 24 and 20 lb density in various thicknesses. Other densities may be available. Ask about many of our valued added services like slitting and die cutting.

Sheet Felt applications would include Bumpers, Spacer Pads, Oil Seals, Polishing, Hard Washers, Print Rolls, Pen Nibs, Casters, Strip Wicks, Pneumatic Tube Heads, Vibration Mounts, Saddles, Stamp Pads, etc.

Needled Wool Felt

Additionally SFF carries a quality line of F-7N, F-15N and F-26N felts: Made with wool and reprocessed wool fibers, these felts are mechanically needle punched in construction. All of our Needled Wool felts are 72” wide and are available with and without PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive). Our felts are available in special widths and can be sold by the LYD (linear yard) or by the roll. Ask about many of our valued added services like slitting and die cutting.

Felt Fact: Wool felts are naturally fame resistant. Although they will burn when exposed to an open flame, when the flame is removed, the felt will extinguish itself.

Synthetic Felt

SFF also carries a large line of synthetic felts for immediate shipment. Unlike the traditional wool pressed felts, synthetic felts are mechanically needle punched in construction and are comprised of synthetic fiber which include Polyester, Polypropylene and viscose blends. Synthetic felts are designed to copy traditional wool pressed felts with thickness and density but are attractive in that they are typically less expensive than wool felts. All of our synthetic felts are available with and without PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive). Our felts are available in special widths and can be sold by the LYD (linear yard) or by the roll. Ask about many of our valued added services like slitting and die cutting.

SFF is able to blend several deniers and fibers together to engineer the perfect industrial textile to meet your most critical needs. Other fibers would include, Polyester, Polypropylene, Polymide Nylon 6 & 6,6, Acrylic Viscose, PVOH/PVA, Modacrylic, Aramids and Low Melt fibers.

Synthetic applications may include Dust Bags, Liquid Filter Bags, Appliance, Padding, Gaskets, Seals, Washers, Packing, Sound Reduction, Dust Shields, Equestrian, Medical, Wipers, Exhibit, Spacer Pads, CFM and Micron rated.

Felt Fact: All wool and synthetic felts have significant resiliency. Felts naturally insulate against cold, heat, sound and vibration.

Sunburst Series Automotive Felt

Our Sunburst 1000 series is a technical felt used specifically for the automotive industry for anti-squeak/anti rattle applications. This is traditionally a black 100% polyester felt that is needle punched and designed to meet FMVSS302 automotive specs. This material is available with and without PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) in .5mm thickness to 25mm and beyond. Our Sunburst 1000 is considered a “green” product as the fiber is extruded from discarded water bottles.

Woven Felt

Woven Felt is a more durable alterative to the wool pressed or needled wool/synthetic variations. Woven felt is available in Black and Off White in .062” to .125” thickness (other thicknesses may be available). Woven Felt is made using Wool fiber and yarn which is woven into a cloth then felted using steam and pressure to make the fibers interlock. Ask about many of our valued added services like slitting and die cutting.

Woven applications would include Printing/etching Blankets, Weather Stripping, Gaskets, Seals, Washers, Dust Shields, Sound Reduction, Space Pads, Plugs, Bearing Seals, Shock Dampeners, Discs, Appliance, Automotive, Etc.
